Newcastle and Manchester named the UK's best-value stag do destinations for 2026

Chillisauce, the UK's leading hen and stag organiser, has analysed 81,000+ recent group bookings alongside independent survey feedback from 4,738 stag groups, cross-referenced against live 2026 travel fares, accommodation and pint prices. The headline finding is a complete three-day UK stag weekend now costs around £300–£410 per person. As groups begin locking in dates for 2027, two cities came out on top, and the stag groups' verdicts show why.

How the ranking works: the table below blends real price data with verified group satisfaction and not price alone, which is why a city can top the list on the strength of its night out even where the average pint costs a little more.

Joint #1: Newcastle & Manchester

Newcastle took top spot for the rare mix of cheap drinks, walkability and a night out with a reputation all of its own. The average pint is around £5, roughly 35% cheaper than London and accommodation averages £69 per person per night. The compact centre means groups can do the whole night on foot, with no taxi budget to worry about. It was also the Geordie welcome stags kept referring back to in their feedback; "Incredible city, friendly people, cheap rounds, we couldn't fault it," said one group. Another said "Brilliant, friendly and no problems getting in anywhere with a 30+ stag group." For a weekend in Newcastle the average cost per person is £35.59 for an activity, £21.39 for a drinks package, £29.35 for a meal and £25.48 for a bar crawl.

Manchester matched it on overall value with the pull of a major city with music, sport, food and nightlife without London prices. The average pint runs a little higher than the smaller cities on the list, but groups rated the sheer scale and quality of the night out well above the cost, calling it "much more affordable than the South of England" and "cheaper than London," with one summing up the weekend as "great atmosphere, great nightlife and very clean." For a weekend in Manchester, the average cost per person includes £86.36 for accommodation, £36.66 for an activity, £25.08 for a drinks package, £29.35 for a meal, and the average pint coming in at £6.00.

The research also highlighted other locations including Liverpool for nightlife, Birmingham for food, and Nottingham and Birmingham joint-top for the sheer number of things to do. It also shows how the best-value weekend is changing with Newquay (4th, and home to the cheapest pint on the list at £4.50) offers a surf-and-coast alternative to the city break, while Bournemouth (5th) delivers beaches and an "abroad" feel without the flights. A recurring theme across the winners noted that Britain's student cities including Leeds, Nottingham and Newcastle drive the most competitive drink prices.

"We send thousands of groups to Prague, Amsterdam and Benidorm every year, and we'll never stop as going abroad has its own magic," said Robyn Davis, Head of Stag and Hen at Chillisauce. "And Newcastle proves you don't have to leave the country for it. Cheap rounds, a compact centre you can walk all night, and a warm welcome from locals plus live music, craft beers and clubbing, all within a few streets of each other. It's no wonder the city keeps topping our satisfaction scores, and it's proof the UK can genuinely compete with anywhere in Europe."

Chillisauce's tips for a stag do on a budget:
  • Book the beds before you lock the dates. In every good-value city, there's only so much accommodation that'll accept a big stag group, and it goes first. Sort where you're staying, then build the weekend around it.
  • Split the group at the door. Manchester stags told us the same thing over and over: a pack of fifteen gets knocked back at the busier bars, but go in as threes and fours and you're straight in.
  • Pick a walkable city and delete the taxi budget. Newcastle you can explore on foot which saves the cab-to-every-venue spend that eats into the kitty in a more spread-out city.
  • Choose an activity with food. Choose daytime activities that come with food or drinks included, and you cover two lines of the budget with one booking.
  • Get the money in early. Sort the kitty before you go, so nobody's doing mental arithmetic at the bar at 1am.
