Korakia Pensione in California is celebrating 100 years of business

Now filled with secret gardens, pools, lounges and fountains, Korakia Pensione has been a Palm Springs sanctuary since the 1920’s and is celebrating 100 years of creative energy and spirit in 2024.

Built in 1924, the Moroccan Villa, originally named Dar Marroc, was the former hideaway of Scottish painter Gordon Coutts, a visionary with a dream to relive his art-filled Moroccan days. The villa served as the location for Coutts to re-create his earlier life in Tangier, a hedonistic city in Morocco, by employing a wide variety of architectural features that promoted Moroccan decor.

The villa quickly became a gathering place for creatives and celebrities alike, with notable visitors including Rudolph Valentino, Errol Flynn, John Lavery, Agnes Pelton, Nicolai Fenshin and Grant Wood.

Now known as Korakia Pensione, the property offers 28 exquisite Mediterranean and Moroccan-inspired bungalows, guesthouses, and villas each with their own unique design, character, and story, including Orchard House, an original 1918 Californian Adobe.

As Korakia celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2024, they also celebrate the 20th year of service for long-term general manager Paulette Monnarez. To celebrate their 100th anniversary, Paulette and her team have launched weekly history and art tours for guests every Saturday, showcasing the captivating pieces and stories that built the foundation for this iconic resort.
