November/December 2021

It dawned on me just recently that I have just six months left until I transform from editor into bridesmaid extraordinaire! Is anyone else freaked out by how quickly time passes en route to W-day? Despite spending my days telling all of you lovely people how to plan, I have very much not practised what I’ve preached and am now panicking about getting into shape. So, it’s a good job indeed that I’m not the bride, who fortunately is literally the most organised person I’ve ever met. That being said, the bride tribe (plus groom) recently decided to hit a wedding show at the venue hosted by our sister company County Wedding Events, looking for finishing touches and bridesmaid dresses. While I’ve attended many a wedding fair in my time with my professional hat on, nothing beats the excitement of experiencing one from the other side of the fence. So, to help you get the most out of your next visit to a wedding fair, I’ve compiled my top five tips.

1. Pre-register. Make sure you sign up on the organisers website. CWE is offering timed entry slots at the moment to keep you all safe and allow you to enjoy your browsing comfortably.

2.Be prepared. Find out who’s exhibiting beforehand and make up a hit list of the suppliers you want to check out. You can usually find this info on the event’s website, but if not there’ll likely be show guide available, so grab one when you arrive and settle down with a cuppa or glass of bubbly before you venture any further.

3. Fashion shows. These are not to be missed in our book. Seeing the latest designs on an actual human, as opposed to on the hanger, can give you a whole new perspective along with tons of ideas.

4.Show and tell. If you’re already at the point where you know your theme, colour palette and venue, it’s a good idea to take your mood board along with you. If you find a supplier you’re keen to work with, it’ll really help them to get a peek at this to get their creative juices flowing.

5.Snap happy. Make sure your smart phone is fully charged and be ready to get as many pics as you can of the things you love. Big events can be a little daunting and the last thing you want is to get home and forget where you saw that incredible cake.

And now, without further ado, I bring you the latest issue of Your Cheshire and Merseyside Wedding (which incidentally is our 60th).

Enjoy and keeep planning!

Arley Hall & Gardens

Arley Hall & Gardens is a place of enormous character, charm and interest. Visitors find the atmosphere warm and intimate, having been struck by the feeling that Arley is a much-cherished family home. The award-winning gardens, which are among the finest in Britain, have been created over the last 250 years by successive generations of the same family. They’re outstanding for their vitality, variety and historical interest, and are particularly celebrated for the magnificent double herbaceous border, which provides a wonderful backdrop for al fresco ceremonies. This along with the Quercus Illex columns and avenue of pleached lime trees make this an amazingly photogenic garden.

Ceremonies can be hosted in the Hall itself, the gardens, the Cruck Barn or Olympia Barn. After which, you’ll move on to or stay in the Hall or Olympia Barn for the celebrations. Maximum recommended capacity throughout is 100 for a sit-down meal at round tables. The venue also offers accommodation for the two of you on your wedding night as well as free menu tasting ahead of time.
