July/August 2018

I’m very excited to say that I’m now planning a wedding – not my own, but my best friend Charlie’s! As soon as she announced she was engaged I went in to full-on control freak mode. I took her a whole stack of magazines and we’ve now got five Pinterest boards brimming with outlandish and over-the-top ideas. I got married two years ago and I’ve been counting down the seconds until I could get my wedmin spreadsheet out again.

Our first job to tick off the to-do list was to choose a venue. If you’re at the same stage then make sure you flick to page 17 to see our pick of the region’s urban settings. Tying perfectly in to this is our super-cool styled shoot on page 86; set at Liverpool’s trendiest venue, SIREN, it showcases how couples can totally rock their day in their own way.

Don’t tell my bestie, but I’ve already started looking at bridesmaids’ dresses – turn to page 57 for our favourite pieces to style your wedding party. I’m trying to convince her that the maid-of-honour traditionally gets a diamond ring too. Happy reading!

Combermere Abbey

Combermere Abbey greets all who travel down the oak-lined driveway with tranquillity and charm. Steeped in a thousand years of history, the spectacular Gothic architecture stands among acres of private parkland, woods and walled gardens. Embracing its rich history, the venue’s Grade I and II listed buildings have been beautifully restored to their previous glory. Inside, guests can expect sumptuous furnishings and lavishly decorated rooms with plenty of areas to relax in the plush surroundings, reminiscent of its heyday but with modern amenities.

The Glasshouse is the perfect ceremony space for up to 120 loved ones, set within the estate’s idyllic fruit-tree maze. Originally built in Edwardian times, the fan-shaped structure was restored in 2007 and features comfortable furniture, silk floral decoration and a sound system. The contemporary oak-framed Arbour is also available for vows.

Receptions for up to 150 people take place in the Walled Garden Pavilion. Parties will enjoy the outdoor terrace before entering the stylish space with neutral décor, lounge seating and spacious dining area. Behind a curtain, the classic dancefloor is revealed, glittering under a magnificent starlit ceiling.

To complete the experience, couples can stay in the North Wing. After a £2million restoration project it now offers butler-serviced bed and breakfast accommodation, overlooking the expansive grounds and mere, with its own private garden. Wedding couples receive a personal gift from the venue, as well as having a tree planted in celebration of their big day. Visit: www.combermereabbey.co.uk
