July/August 2020

As I write from lockdown, I try to turn my mind to all things positive, as thankfully, we’re beginning to see a glimmer of light at the end of that tunnel. One thing I’ll take from this is just how proud I am to be part of the wedding industry. I’ve been incredibly heartened by local suppliers, who’ve been working tirelessly to help couples forced to cancel their dream days, and live in hope that we’ll all be able to celebrate together again soon.

We’re here to offer some light relief and advice wherever you’re at on your journey to W-day, even if you’ve been forced backwards a few paces. Nothing warms the heart like a love story, and we have four of our readers’ to share starting on page 22. What’s more, if you’re planning a day to remember turn to page 44 for our annual catering feature, with plenty of mouthwatering seasonal-dish suggestions to keep guests reminiscing for years to come.

Finally, if your skin’s feeling the effects of lockdown, you won’t want to miss my interview with skincare expert and social media icon Caroline Hirons, who’ll have you wedding-ready in no time (page 74). Take care out there.

Double Tree By Hilton Hotel & Spa

This venue, paired with the historic city of Chester, offers a fine combination for your wedding day in the region. Situated between the M53 and the city centre, it offers easy access to Manchester and Liverpool International Airports, as well as Chester railway station – ideal if you’re welcoming guests from all over. With a stunning and lovingly restored 18th-century manor house, Grade II listed English Heritage conservatory, and a converted stable barn, you’re ensured a special day that’s both magical and memorable.

Set in 12 acres of beautiful landscaped gardens, featuring a Victorian walled garden and restored Ha-Ha wall, you’re not short of spectacular backdrops for those all-important photographs.

The Abbey Suite is a converted stable barn with original beams and natural Cheshire brick, it can host 110 for your ceremony and daytime celebrations, and 130 for the evening. The contemporary Ballroom has the largest capacity and adjoins the Grade II listed conservatory. There’s space for 220 day guests and 350 for the evening. For more intimate occasions, the Yerburgh Suite, located in the Manor House, overlooking the grounds can hold 30. Alternatively, if al fresco “I dos” are your thing, the pagoda next to the pond and fountain is available for a minimum of 6 guests.
