Couple Ben Miller, 32, and Lorenzo Garofalo, 45, are taking the stress of wedding planning to new heights as they intend to take their entire wedding party from Liverpool to Edinburgh by combining the Northern Belle luxury train, road transfer and the floating hotel Fingal in May 2025.
The elegance and opulence of 1930s travel forms the theme through this immersive wedding with brunch and dinner onboard the Northern Belle luxury train, known for its art deco opulence and first-class service, with the ceremony taking place onboard the now five-star floating boutique hotel.
"We knew we wanted to do something unique and memorable," says Ben Miller. "But I don't think either of us envisioned the day we've crafted or the unique complexities we're having to work out. I don't think anyone has ever combined a journey on the Northern Belle with the beauty of the Fingal's ballroom"
Once the support ship for Northern Lighthouse Board vessels, Fingal is now a five-star boutique hotel that blends maritime charm with modern sophistication. The couple will exchange vows in the elegantly adorned ballroom, surrounded by the gentle sway of the water and panoramic views of the harbour before re-joining the train for the wedding breakfast of gourmet cuisine and fine wine as the train glides through the breath-taking British countryside, with live entertainment to set the celebratory tone.
"We didn't want an off-the-shelf wedding," adds Lorenzo Garofalo. "We wanted something that was unique to us, something that captures our sense of adventure and love of history. When we walked into the ballroom of the Fingal, we knew we had to somehow make this work, we couldn't imagine getting married anywhere else.
"The logistics have been insane," continues Miller. "We've had to work out what gets sent direct to Edinburgh, what gets sent direct to the train yard, what gets loaded in Liverpool and offloaded in Edinburgh, what gets loaded in Liverpool and stays on the train. It's a military style operation because if we lose something or forget something there is no going back for it or checking if it's in the room next door. We are always moving throughout day across many miles of rail and road."
Spanning two countries and three modes of transport in the one day will certainly leave a lasting impression for those attending while setting a new precedent for experiential weddings.
