After months or even years of planning a wedding, planning an extravagant honeymoon may not appeal to some newlyweds. It is becoming increasingly popular for couples to embark on a mini moon and take a break in the UK for a few days ahead of a longer, more costly honeymoon.

Home to some of the country’s most famous writers and musicians, Cheshire and Merseyside has plenty of romantic settings to escape to a country cottage.  And the best part about staying local, is that there’s no need to leave furry companions at home! From a cosy cottage in Alderley Edge to a chic apartment in Chester, last minute UK holiday rental provider, Snaptrip, has rounded up the best accommodation in Cheshire and Merseyside for a pet-friendly mini-moon

Daresbury
Birthplace of British writer and poet Lewis Carroll, Daresbury is an idyllic setting for a romantic mini-moon. This stunning village and civil parish in Cheshire is full of heritage and nature to explore, with local attractions including The Warrington Museum and Walton Hall and Gardens only minutes away. Dog lovers will not be stuck for places to stretch their legs with Daresbury Walking Trails and Bridgewater Canal providing ample picturesque walks all year round.

Chester
Famous for its extensive Roman walls, river walks and the zoo, Chester has something for everyone. Couples can explore the city's heritage by visiting Chester Cathedral and the Grosvenor Museum or treat themselves and browse the shops in the Tudor style shopping district. Dog-lovers don't need to rush back as most of the main highstreets are pedestrianised and pet-friendly, with many cafes and pubs also welcoming dogs.

Liverpool
For newlyweds who are fans of the Beatles, a city break in Liverpool is a must. The city's 'Beatles Quarter' is full of music and history with activities including a Magical Mystery Tour, a trip to John Lennon's family home and tickets to the famous Cavern Club. There's ample opportunities to get out and about with pets too, with walks along the docks and sandy beaches only minutes away.

Alderley Edge
For those that want to lay low and escape the chaos of city life post-wedding, Alderley Edge is off the beaten track and provides some of the most stunning views over the Cheshire Plain. Couples can get a taste of country life by walking the dramatic red sandstone escarpment or choose from a selection of National Trust properties in the surrounding area. The high street is lined with outdoor terraces and chic boutiques, making it the perfect hotspot for a few afternoon tipples with your new spouse. For evening entertainment, newlyweds can see live music at a selection of independent bars and restaurants, many of which encourage bringing dogs along.

New Brighton
There's nothing like a trip to the seaside and the bustling town of New Brighton is not one to miss. Located on the Wirral coast on the bay of Liverpool, it is one of the most popular seaside resorts in the North of England and is extremely popular with couples and families. The high street is full of its famous ice cream and fish and chip shops and thrill seekers can visit the open air funfair or have a round of footgolf.

Alternatively, there is ample places to take a romantic walk including round Vale Park or out to the New Brighton lighthouse.
