Marisa Rooney, owner of Beautiful Brides Liverpool, a shop for gorgeous curvy girls everywhere, has entered Miss British Beauty Curve. The plus-size beauty pageant celebrates women from all walks of life to show the world how amazingly diverse Great Britain is. We caught up with Marisa to hear her story.
"After having gastric surgery, losing 8 stone and nearly killing myself to lose weight, I wanted to let other women know that weight loss never made me happy," says Marisa. "What made me happy was finally accepting myself and realising that the ideal body doesn't exist. I want to help other women embrace their curves to improve their whole outlook on life."
"This pageant represents a diverse range of women who want to celebrate their bodies while also encouraging future generations to be proud of how they look. I'm hoping to bring the crown back to Merseyside!" says Marisa. "My curvy cause for the fashion industry is to drop the plus-size label. I started the #lifesizenotplussize campaign when I was studying fashion, and now I blog about curvy fashion for life-size women at www.thecurvyqueen.co.uk"
