July/August 2023

I cannot believe that my dear friends Melissa and Dave will be celebrating their first anniversary this month! Where on earth did that year go? For those of you who are new to the magazine and, possibly happily for you, missed my endless and excited rambles about preparing to be a bridesmaid for fellow CWM editor Melissa, I hope you’ll indulge me as I reminisce!

Not wanting to start out on a negative note, but hands up: I hate the summer. It’s just too hot! Many a time I’ve contemplated taking a summer home in Iceland, but alas the budget doesn’t permit. But in 2022, my season horribilis was made all the merrier by the excitement of a wedding. Sage green and blush pink was the palette of choice, while the vibe was rustic. Still on trend this year, I’d go so far as to call it a timeless theme. On 22nd July, we’d just about made it through the hottest days of the year, when thank goodness, the temperatures started to cool to a bearable level. An al fresco ceremony, a reception with the venues’ folding doors flung open, and some memorable moments for the newlyweds spent with their photographer in the nearby cornfields during golden hour: It was all a summer wedding should be, and more.

I’ll admit to liking one thing about the season though, and it came into play on Melissa and Dave’s big day, as indeed it would at any wonderful wedding. First and foremost, it’s the long days. Making the best of the great outdoors is something we can do to the max during the summer. There are no more hours in the day, of course, but somehow it feels like there are, which is a huge plus when you’re celebrating such a momentous occasion. So, if you’re thinking about hosting your entire day outside, you won’t want to miss the advice of our experts over in Hot Topic from page 52. Or, if you want to at least have the option to spill out of your venue and into some glorious gardens, check out our venue feature from page 21.

I hope you find inspiration aplenty among the pages of our summer issue, where there’s even a venue styling hotlist (page 49) featuring all the top trends so you can learn how to make it all look utterly gorgeous!

Enjoy and keeeep planning!

Pear Tree Farm

Pear Tree Farm is a charming country cottage standing in around nine acres of gardens and fields, just five minutes from the pretty town of Knutsford. It’s a small, private retreat for intimate and bespoke weddings for two and a few. There are two exquisite guest bedrooms, with four-poster and canopied beds, bespoke hand-painted walls and ceilings, luxurious silks, voiles and velvet soft furnishings. The all-white bridal suite includes a balcony overlooking the garden and a double bath surrounded by candles for the perfect romantic soak.

Among the incredible photo opportunities in the gardens are the rose garden, parterre, and clematis-covered tunnel leading down to a duck pond complete with decking and a trickling waterfall. In addition to the garden, there are the grassy fields to explore along with a small paddock with seating area and firepit under the trees.

Ceremonies can take place in one of three beautiful locations each with a maximum capacity of 16 nearest and dearest. The Summer House set in the landscaped gardens and in the lee of an old weeping willow, located next to a small orchard with a variety of fruit trees including, of course, several pear trees. The Paddock Ceremony Area is set in a dip at the bottom of the small secluded paddock, where you’ll find a hidden seating area under the trees with twinkling lights. Finally, The Gold Room boasts beautiful hand-painted walls and an intricately painted ceiling. The room is furnished with antiques, including several grandfather clocks and a baby grand piano.

Celebrations are hosted in the Diamond Dining Room for 16 people. The décor is a rich, deep burgundy and gold, reminiscent of grand old theatres. The venue works with an excellent chef who’d come to the house to prepare, cook and serve a tailormade menu.
