September/October 2018

Anyone who knows me knows that I’m a devoted sun-worshipper. Any little patch of sunlight and I’ll be in it – so it may come as a surprise that I’m actually kinda looking forward to autumn, mainly because I have two weddings to go to! One is in a gorgeous rustic barn in Lancashire; the other is a small laid-back affair in my native Essex. The two settings couldn’t be more different and it got me thinking about all the unusual places in which couples can now tie the knot. To see our pick of the region’s quirkiest venues turn to page 25.

For any of you lovely readers who are getting married next summer, you’ve probably started thinking about the one. No, not your partner – the dress! Our fabulous fashion editor has pulled together a whole host of swoon-worthy gowns on page 67, all taking inspiration from a bygone era.

Making a grand entrance is a bride and groom’s prerogative, so flick to page 55 to see what fun and funky transport options we have available in our area. As always, we’ve got our Hot Topic Q&A feature over on page 91, where our local experts answer your burning questions – if you need some w-day advice, don’t hesitate to drop us a line!

OH ME OH MY

Brought to you by the team behind LEAF on Bold Street, OH ME OH MY was established in 2013 when the owners resurrected this hidden city-centre gem. Located opposite the city’s iconic Three Graces and world heritage waterfront, the venue is the perfect downtown wedding space. It was built in the 1920s as the home of the prestigious Bank of West Africa.

The grand exterior of this former bank has been lovingly restored. Inside, the flexible space offers double-height ceilings, glorious columns and classical styling. Impressive tall windows provide stunning vistas and the spiral staircase up to the mezzanine floor offers the perfect spot to watch weddings in action.

Although not available for ceremonies, there are plenty of options nearby. Receptions take place in the original banking hall for up to 250 standing guests and 160 seated. After the formalities, parties can enjoy the Goodness Gracious roof garden, which sits on the eighth floor of the building; it’s the perfect al fresco addition to further soak up the incredible views.

All wedding couples are offered a tasting session, along with a complimentary afternoon tea with bubbles.
