Let’s hear it for dad!

Our parents play an important role on our wedding day. Earlier in the year, you may have read our 'Three Cheers for Mum' feature; where we went through all of the things that mums do on the build-up to the big day. But now, as Father's Day approaches, we turn our attention to dad. On the surface, a corny joke generating machine, but beyond that he's the rock that keeps us saine on the day of the wedding. All he wants is to get his speech out of the way and spend all day gushing about how beautiful his daughter is. The Father-of-the-bride is a badge of honour he will rock all day and won't let anyone forget it. But what other duties does he perform on our wedding day?

Walk you down the aisle. The classic role, and something we all dream about when we are little girls.

Be with you in the car before you get married. The last moments before you get married, are spent in the car feeling anxious about it all. Dad is the lucky person who gets to share these last moments of unmarried life with you, before he holds your hand down the aisle and into newlywed life.

Be there for the "first look" after you're all dolled up. Most dads seem like tough cookies right up until they see their daughter for the first time in their wedding dress – boy oh boy do the water works get turned on then!

Deliver a tear-jerking, killer speech. Dads might not say much but when it comes to the wedding speech, their time to shine has come. Here he can talk about what you were like as a kid, how some of those attributes carried into adult life, and how quiet the house has been since you moved out. These speeches, whilst hilarious in places, are sure to get you reaching for the tissues.

Father-daughter dance. Need we say anymore on this? It's such a special moment in the wedding and another dad moment you'll need the tissues for.

Deploy classic dad jokes. What would dad be without his jokes, right? You can expect a barrage of these on your wedding day.

Dad dancing. Ah the classic scene at any end-of-night wedding celebrations; dad with his tie off displaying some very unfortunate examples of dancing.

For all of dad's quirks, he always knows how to take the seriousness out of the day and provide ample entertainment for the adults and kids. Without him, who knows where we would be? Happy Father's Day to all our past, present and future, father-of-the-bride.
